Hidden Gem: Boston Skin Solutions

bss2Nestled in the heart of Coolidge Corner, Boston Skin Solutions is one of the area’s best kept secrets. With little signage and a discrete front entrance, you will feel like Cindy Crawford going to visit Dr. Sebagh for the very first time in Paris. The petite spa prides itself on personalized service and helping you achieve your image goals through a customized treatment plan.

The spa is offering two Spa Week treatments: “The Ultimate” 75-minute Organic Ultrasonic Facial including head and neck massage and the 75-minute “Power C Peel” Organic Vitamin C Peel Infusion with head and neck massage – both for only $50. I opted for “The Ultimate”.

Upon arrival I was greeted by Bridget Riley, one of the owners. I felt like we went way back since we had already connected on Twitter fifteen minutes prior. Bridget asked me to fill out an intake form to help her learn more about my skin history and addressed any of my specific skin concerns. She suggested I try the Ultrasonic facial since I had never had one before.

It began with steaming and cleansing the face, followed by the ultrasonic exfoliation. If you are like me and had never heard of this, the exfoliation is performed by simultaneously applying a water solution to loosen dead skin cells and “scraping” the surface of the skin with a spatula tool activated by ultrasonic sound waves to lift dry skin cells off the skin. This process is said to be much less abrasive than microdermabrasion with excellent results. After exfoliating comes the fun part – extraction. Bridget was very thorough, but explained that in order to avoid acne scarring she won’t go after anything too aggressively. Next came the ultrasonic product infusion for super hydrated, glowing skin. Finishing off the treatment was the head and neck massage and a clay mask infused with real tea tree oil.

All of the products used were organic; a huge plus for me because I don’t like using too many chemicals on my skin. Bridget favors Hylunia products and MDSolarSciences, which she says she uses herself and has been for over five years. All of the Hylunia products are completely safe (sulfate-free, paraban-free, phosphate-free, fragrance free) and vegan. The smells of tea tree and lavender kept me feeling calm and relaxed the rest of the day. I even left with a goodie bag full of samples!

The Ultrasonic Facial and the Power C Peel are regularly $125, so take advantage of the Spa Week savings and check them out now. Boston Skin Solutions can be found on Facebook and Twitter as well as their website – www.BostonSkin.com.
